Make it a better place. For you and for me.

Before any other essay or passages, I want every child who is growing up to have a look at this one. I am sure, this will be an eye opener for all if not a collection of fake ideas about the country. Since my childhood, I’ve been reading about this country which is multi lingual, full of different cultures, traditions, respect for each one of them and also the land where women are worshipped in so many forms. I never really happened to visit any such country though.

I am an Indian.

A let down, disappointed and scared citizen of this country, INDIA.

I don’t want to give facts or figures about this country or write about what has been happening. I have reached a point where I have just accepted the place I live in and given up on everything else happening around. I would like to sum up all the fears that have found a place in my heart and how I feel being a part of this haunted place.

Every morning I wake up, I am scared. I am scared of wearing something of my choice, I am scared of telling people about menstruation, I am scared of going out alone, thinking someone would kidnap me, rape, or rob me. I am scared of leaving anyone from my family, alone at home thinking that crime doesn’t see the victim’s age and everyone is prone to danger while they’re alive in this country. I am scared of traveling alone. I am scared of letting anyone inside my house. I am scared of going to temples while I am menstruating. I am scared of  going to public places. And most importantly, I am scared of talking about these fears with anyone.

I’m scared to be alive and also too afraid to die.

This is how every woman feels today.

This is the country you live in.

There’s so much to rectify, so much to put back to place.

Each one of us hold immense responsibility to correct everything that has gone wrong.

This society that we live in consists of all of us. We have to make it better, not just for us but for all. That is how this society will sustain.

I hope each one of you wake up to this and do your bit to make this place, safe, if not anything else. This society, this country deserves the best provided the people promise to put in the required effort. It is not a single day’s job. It is something that needs to begin now and shall continue forever limitlessly.

Because you only live once. Make it worth it.

If today, I ask you, what is that one thing in life

That one thing right now that you want

That you wish to have

Right at this moment

Be it a fancy car, or better income, or love etc

What would it be?

And how would you go about finding it?

We’re all humans here, fighting for survival

Giving up on something, to achieve something else

We’re always in search for something we lost on our way or something we are working towards

But the question is,how do we get it?

Before anything else, the first and the foremost thing is to ask yourself a basic question:

Are you really fine? Are you really doing okay?

Are you happy with that failed marriage of yours? Or that job of yours? Or your salary? Or giving up on your dreams?

We often say we’re fine and we’re okay

But the point is. Whom do we say that to?

The person in front of us?

Or ourselves?

We’ve somewhere taught ourselves how to give up on things

We’ve somewhere told ourselves that we’ll be fine without a few things in life

“My girlfriend won’t understand, it’s okay let it be”

“My boss won’t get it, it’s okay let it be”

We’re just trying to get used to this process of torturing ourselves

Only when you know you’re fat, you hit the gym

Only when you know you’re lonely, you meet people

Understand what’s inside you

Who else will?

Find a solution

Don’t let yourself give up on things

Don’t let yourself suffer

You have all the solutions

Don’t swipe your internal snooze alarm and ignore what you need and what you desire

Work towards it!

Don’t teach yourself how to stay without something

Rather, prepare yourself to achieve everything that you’ve ever wanted

Human body has the ability to tell us what it needs right at that moment

Hungry? Needs food

Thirsty? Needs water

What about when you feel dissatisfied? That’s a signal too!

Don’t ignore it.

It isn’t the end of everything! It’s the need for you to explore, to live and to discover!

It’s important to feel uncomfortable

It’s important to get out of that comforter early in the morning and take out time for something you love

That is how your soul grows!

You had so many plans

What about that city you always wanted to visit?

That expensive dress that you wanted to buy with your savings?

That company you wanted to intern with?

Those classes that you wanted to join?

That novel that you wanted to write and gift it to your parents?

That figure that you wanted? That house that you wanted to build to make sure your parents settle well before you do?

What happened to those plans?

How far are you from achieving them?

What have you been waiting for?

That right time? That suitable day? That correct moment?

You think you have forever. But you don’t.

You might have a really long time, but that won’t take long to pass.

Do what you always wanted to.

Work hard, get some sleepless nights, early mornings and make it happen!

The idea of forever comes within numbered days.

Don’t waste the time you have now. Don’t waste this opportunity.

Don’t lose out on this moment. These are the small moments that will later create your big one! When you will have all that you’ve ever wanted in your hands and be proud of.

Don’t let this go. To reach that point, that seems far fetched, you need to begin now.

Some determination, some faith in yourself and your dreams and your love to make them turn true. It does sound difficult but not impossible.

Because at the end of your life, more memories and achievements will satisfy you more than the dreams that could’ve been achieved.

Everything is fair in love, war and ELECTIONS?

Ever paid attention to how many terms have been highlighted in the preamble?

And how many of them are actually provided to us? How many of them, in reality, are practiced for the citizens?

It is quite interesting to see how all of those terms made a place to the document after so many discussions and how each one of them have their own importance and relevance. But it is even sad to see how none of them are actually implemented.

This is that time of the year.

Humungous posters and manifestos, advertisements suffocating you from everywhere, never ending rallies, long emotional and impressive speeches, fancy promises and so much more. Did I mention voters?

Umm, not really.

With time, we have come to notice the fact that voters are no longer the ones who choose the most suitable representative, rather they’re the ones who are used to achieve power from and then let down by using the same. We see different parties at war with each other but what is this war for? Is it a war to serve us better? Is it a war to provide us with our basic needs? It is a war to understand and fulfill our demands?

Certainly not.

It is that time of the year where we look for a representative who is a shade better than the other and not for us. The term development, progress, road safety, women safety, rules and regulations, law and order make way to the speeches during lavish rallies, but never after that. When the priorities change and all the promises are again left unfulfilled.

So what is it that still makes us await this time, even though we know how and what it leads to.

This hope somewhere has brought a sense of selfishness in us, wherein we don’t care about the nation or the country, but us.

And what is better than manipulating the helpless?

Here comes bribing, brainwashing, making promises, building temporary faith and so much more. Because we, the people have what the representatives need.

The power that they exercise is what we give to him. Unfortunately, what we want in return is not power but decisions. Decisions for a better country and better society to live in.

The society functions and survives on FAITH.

And surprisingly, this one faith among the citizens, once broken never goes away.

It just gives the strength to seen even worse

Where power is achieved and misused.

When promises are made but not fulfilled.

When speeches are read only once and never again.

When citizens are equal to God and later politics functions on using both.

A hope for a better society and a better country.

A hope for a better representation.

A hope for all those who have been neglected and all that has been destroyed.

A hope for the country and a better life because that is the least we can ask for.

I want to write about how writing for me is something occasional, something I can’t always do justice to. I feel all those who have a flair for writing will be able to relate with this at some point or the other. Everyday has so much to offer, so much to understand, realize, be sad about and even appreciate. But writing about every such thing isn’t always easy unless you feel about everything with the same intensity and can also express it in the same. Not everyday you find the right words, not every day you get to associate the right feelings with them.  Writing to me has made me calm, happy and help me vent out everything inside me. At the same time, it can also destroy me with my own words. Even though writing is just adding words to your thoughts, it still remains a surprise for the reader as well as the writer.Every line that I write has breathings of my heart either when it was broken,or when it found a new reason to beat! It’s amazing to see how words can make us so powerful when everything else tend to make us feel worthless. By now I’ve realized how important it is to write, how important it is to store everything that you feel somewhere and express it in the way in which you know nobody would judge or comment upon. That freedom of thought and expression brings in a lot of honesty and transparency in what we’ve been doing and what we aspire to do. You’ll never know where you’ll reach with that one line that you type and how many hearts you touch or thoughts that you provoke. It brings out the best in you and helps you introspect yourself in a way no one else can. Writing is like food for the soul which makes you happy when you find no ray of positivity from anywhere and also makes you feel powerful. All of us somewhere feel that connection with the words that others write and that also gives us hope as to how we’re not the only ones struggling and how everyone is somewhere or the other at war with themselves or their lives.

So I urge everyone to be fearless! Be confident! And be proud!

Of your flaws, imperfections, achievements and everything that brings you down.

Write about them! Give them a voice! And carry them with yourself for a lifetime!

Start writing about your failures too! You shall see the change then

If it becomes difficult for you to write about something, write about what stops you! Write about what encourages you. Keep it extremely truthful and transparent and it shall always help you eradicate things you wish to, from your life and also treasure some for the future.

It is somewhere important to write what you at times, wish to read. What is better than being the voice behind those thoughts or those beliefs?

As humans all of us somewhere deep down care about this one good side of us that we wish to show to the world, the side that has all the characteristics of being that GOOD PERSON as per everyone. We try to please everybody, make sure everyone around us sees only that one side of us and love us just for that.

So this concept of being a good person… how important do you think is it?

And before anything else, who do you think sets this benchmark that separates bad from good and others?

There is a small difference that I have recently understood with a few experiences in  my life.

A lot of people might talk to me and think of me as a good human, but what makes me happy is to be better human. Better from before, better from who I was, better from when I became helpless and better from when I promised myself to be better.

The whole concept of being good is very NARROW.

There might be many things that we do because it makes us feel like a good person, but is that similar to really being one?

To understand whether being good for them or being better for yourself, is where the actual meaning to this life lies. To understand what matters to you, what makes you happy and what is important to you, is the road to being better. When  we commit mistakes, we promise ourselves to learn from them for our betterment and not for others. For someone, who wishes to be a good person in front of this society, learning from their mistakes, doing what they love and setting priorities is always going to be difficult. But for someone, who wishes to be a better person for themselves, all these things give them happiness contentment. It is important to know who you are, what you lack and where you want to be in order to become better. This society that we live in is nothing but judgmental. We will never be able to satisfy them and fit in their perfectly. But we can surely make a space for us which is built up of things that make us happy and better each day.

So don’t let the idea of being good get in you way of becoming better.

Don’t do this for them, but for you.

Don’t take decisions because the outcome might be in favor of becoming a good person, rather do it because you self interest and your wishes guide you in that direction.

Stop protecting that identity of a good person or else you’ll never become better.

The concept of good person somewhere categorizes you by putting you in the columns of ARE YOU or ARE YOU NOT. It does not give you any space to be yourself, to choose what suits you or what supports your understanding of things.

Start differentiating between what you want to do and what you’re supposed to do and choose where your happiness lies.

Becoming better sets your standards high and makes you work harder to reach up there and set the bar high up again.

Becoming better will be tough. It will take us from downfalls to falling back even stronger. It will take us from being vulnerable to feeling safer. It will take us from being less confident to gaining strength and belief.  What matters more than being stronger, safer and gaining strength is the journey. Our journey of reaching up there and learning so much with every time we thought we will never get back.

This room that we need to give to ourselves is important for our growth and for us to get BETTER and not just good.
